Rev. Orange V. Lemon

Rev. Orange V. Lemon was born in Clarke County, Ohio, a son of William Lemon, who was born in Virginia, of Scotch and Irish descent, and died, in Clarke County, Ohio, in 1815. Onr subject was reared in Clarke and Champaign counties, Ohio, and was educated at the common schools. At the age of fourteen he connected himself with the Methodist Episcopal church. In 1834 he with his wife removed to Laporte County, Ind., and in 1840 he was licensed to preach. In 1841 he commenced as an itinerant minister, and continued his labors in the Northern part of the State until 1878, when he was superannuated. In 1855 he settled in Centreville, and since 1860 he has resided most of the time in Richmond. He served nearly a year as Chaplain of the Thirty-sixth Indiana Infantry. He has filled the positions of circuit preacher, Presiding Elder, American Bible Society agent, agent of Fort Wayne College, and agent of the Preachers' Aid Society.
