Robert Hodgin

Robert Hodgin is a native of North Carolina, where he learned the trade of an iron-maker. He came to Richmond in 1866 and since that time has been identified in the mechanical department of the railroad shops. In 1879 he assumed the responsibility of foreman of the shops, being the successor of W. H. Converse. The present shops were erected in 1875, under the direction of the chief engineer of the Pittsburg, Cincinnati & St. Louis Railroad. They are 100 x 210 feet in size. Seventy hands are employed, and repair work is done for the First and Third divisions of the C., St. L. & P., G. R. & I. and the L. M. roads.
