Peter Heipp

Peter Heipp, harness-maker and saddler, Hartford. This business was established by Mr. Fred Hildebrandt (deceased), in 1865, who carried it on alone till February, 1879, when he took Mr. Peter Heipp as a partner. Mr. Hildebrandt died April 18, 1881, since which time the business has been carried on by Mr. Heipp for himself and the heirs of Mr. Hildebrandt. Average stock carried, $1,200. The subject of this sketch is a native of Prussia; is the son of Franz and Margaret (Fuchs) Heipp, and was born March 10, 1850; came to America with his parents in 1854, and located in the town of Jackson, Washington Co.; learned his trade at West Bend with Charles Hildebrandt; went from there Green Bay, and worked a short time; came to Hartford in July, 1870, and worked with Mr. Luce; also worked awhile in Escanaba, Mich., and several other places, till February, 1879, when he entered into partnership with Mr. Hildebrandt in his present business. He was married, Dec. 6, 1877, at Fillmore, Washington Co., to Lucy Dreher, daughter of Dennis Dreher. Mrs. Heipp was born in Bavaria. They have one son-Phillip. In May, 1881, Mr. Heipp, in company with Mr. Unglub, took the agency of the following insurance companies: The Concordia, of Milwaukee; German, of Freeport, Ill., and Herman Mutual, of Dodge Co., Wis.
